It's been a busy year!

The GNO's have been doing good deeds all year long. In January (2012) we established our Sharity Calendar for the year. It went a little like this...In February, we donated household goods and toiletries to 'The Other Bank' YWCA of Olympia (http://ywcaofolympia.org/?page_id=1534) where Mischell was our project leader and organizer. In March, we helped out the Ruby Room by stuffing envelopes with posters to send out to the high schools for prom season. We may have had a little bit of wine to keep our assembly line moving along. April was the Shelter Helper where we collected dog and cat food for Cascade Animal Protection Society (http://www.animalshelter.org/shelters/Cascade_Animal_Protection_Society_rId5628_rS_pC.html). Jen Block was our mighty leader for that one. In May, Patrice & Michelle organized our annual NW Harvest (http://www.northwestharvest.org/) collection where we donated 428 lbs of food to their Kent warehouse. Our June/July Sharity was for Free Cakes for Kids. We pre-baked and then decorated 32 cakes for Camp to Belong (http://www.ctbnorthwest.org/) in Oregon where foster kids get to go meet up with their birth siblings and celebrate their birthdays together.

July & August we take a break since it's difficult to pull everyone together with vacations and summer activities. So for August/September, we collected back to school items for Tree House for Kids (http://www.treehouseforkids.org/). Kylene was kind enough to make the drop off. We didn't get a volunteer event pulled together... not for a lack of trying by Kathryn & Teri. Hopefully next year we'll be able to work out a schedule.

October was a fun one. Jennie Lee organized the 'Thank you' card making and collection for the Pin-up Angels (http://www.thepinupangels.com/pinupangelshome.html) to include in their care packages for the troops over seas. We also helped the Ruby Room (http://www.rubyroomseattle.org/) stuff their swag bags for their annual fashion show fund raiser. A lot was accomplished that night and we rewarded ourselves with some tasty snacks and wine.

November is always our hat making extravaganza. This year we made 157 fleece hats along with some scarves that will be taken over to the Union Gospel Mission in downtown Seattle (http://www.ugm.org/site/PageServer?pagename=default). Next month will be our 3rd annual Toys for Tots party where the admission fee is (unwrapped) toys. It's a family event and the kids love it! We will have two Marines in attendance representing the Toys for Tots organization (http://fort-lewis-wa.toysfortots.org/local-coordinator-sites/lco-sites/default.aspx) and they will distribute the gifts to needy families in our community.

Well, that about sums up 2012 for the GNO's. In January, we will convene again and develop our sharity schedule for the year. Thanks to everyone for your support!

GNO: update

It's been many months since I've updated the GNO blog. My apologies. Us ladies have accomplished quite a bit since March. We have donated items to the Jubilee Women's Center and cooked a dinner with Liz Havlin as our Project Leader. We collected food items for Northwest Harvest in May. Our cake making extravaganza was a hit with Free Cakes for Kids-South Sound where all of the decorated cakes went to the Camp to Belong Birthday Bash! In the summer we collected some back-to-school supplies for Youthcare and in October we collected items for Treehouse 4 Kids.

Our November activity was to make fleece hats for the Union Gospel Mission to distribute to the homeless in our community. We ended up making 162 hats and 34 scarves along with collecting gloves, jackets and warm clothes.

December is usually our Toys for Tots party, however we've had to take a break from this year's event since we are booked on a two week shoot. We are still collecting toys for the Marines, so our efforts are not being lost just because we aren't hosting a party. GNO: updated calendar for year 2011

The next GNO night will be on 3/8 here at the studio ~6pm'ish (or whenever you can roll in). Kim included the information for Jubilee House and it's listed below. Liz will be organizing the volunteer event where we will make dinner for the residents at the Jubilee House. Date: TBD.

I will try to summarize as much as possible, but there is a lot of material to cover. We didn't get this accomplished in January, so it rolled over into February. Our GNO night on Tuesday was productive and we nailed down our sharities for the year. It was a tough job keeping our agenda on track. Trying to maintain focus amongst a gathering of chattering girls is more difficult than herding cats, however we did finally get the details out of the way so that everyone could get back to the fun at hand. The latest...

So... it looks like the last time I updated the blog was for the 'Back to School Drive'. A lot has happened since then. We collected schools supplies, clothing and volunteered for "Treehouse for Kids" on a Saturday afternoon. We also gathered together on one of our GNO nights to make 130 fleece hats, scarves and collect blankets, sleeping bags, coats, gloves and all things warm for the Union Gospel Mission. Our last event was 'Shelter Helper' where we collected pet food and supplies for Seattle's Humane Society. We were also very lucky to have our good friend, Chris Biega of Biega Construction, come speak to the group about tools, how to use them, contractors, permits and other super useful information on how to be a Ms. Fix-it!

I'm already working on 2011 ideas which include having my mechanic give us ladies a talk about general car maintenance, doing some stream rehabilitation/clean-up work, maybe a bicycle tune-up class and asking Biega to come back and talk about power tools! I'm thinking that some gardening topics would be great too and possibly getting an arborist in to teach us how to properly prune trees and bushes. The topics are endless...

Our next event is the third annual "Toys for Tot's" party at the studio on 12/2/10. It's a pot-luck event and admission to the festivities is either new, unwrapped toys for the tots and/or non-perishable food donations for Northwest Harvest.

On our January 11th meet-up, we will discuss our 'sharities' for the year. If you are interested in joining us, send me a note!

Back-To-School Drive 9/14/10

Hi Ladies,

Well, it's time to get back to "Doing Good Deeds". Summer break is almost over and all the little kiddies are heading back to school soon. You know what that means... Treehouse for Kids (http://www.treehouseforkids.org/back-to-school-drives) will be receiving donations from GNO:DGD (Georgetown Chapter), along with the White Center volunteer tutoring program.

Our meet up will be at the studio on 9/14, 6pm'ish.
Project Leaders for this event are: Laura Peters Boothroyd & Casandra Mack.
Tap those resources and see how much stuff we can gather up. It doesn't take much to get a kid started in the right direction, so let's get back in the giving-groove so these kids can look forward to school.

Decision: Update or take it down...

Final Decision: Update.

Yeah. Been lazy about the GNO blog. Wasn't sure anyone was really reading it anyway... until last night someone mentioned it. Figured I'd give it another whirl.

For the GNO's, this is more like a newsletter and is the same thing on the Facebook group page and in the email I sent out. So if you read those and this still doesn't sound familiar, then you should have your memory checked. Basically, there is no new information here than was there from this point forward.

Hello Ladies,

Well, last night was truly a success! A big thanks to Jen & Sukey for their valued skills as Project Leaders and to all of the girls who donated flour, sugar, cake mixes, food coloring & cake pans. I'm guesstimating that we must have collected enough ingredients for 200+ birthday cakes for the "Free Cakes for Kids" organization. Mischell, the organizer for the Western Washington South Sound Chapter, spoke to the group about the cause. She truly is amazing and inspiring. Amy (and her two boys), were also in attendance. She is a volunteer baker and helps make and deliver cakes to the kids in need in her area.

Honestly, I guess I never gave much thought to the importance of a birthday cake. I always took it for granted. It was never a question whether my parents would have one or not in order to celebrate my special day. If you think about it, it's your day to feel important, needed, wanted, loved and just plain special. Your existence matters and a birthday cake is a symbol for the celebration of your life. Hearing Mischell talk about the kids that aren't as fortunate, made me realize how lucky I was to have loving parents and family to show me that I matter. It's amazing what a little flour, sugar, eggs and a lot of love can do to formulate the soul of a child. A little enlightenment goes a long way... and I am so proud that we were able to make birthdays special for so many kids. I hope our little efforts have far reaching effects and each candle that gets blown out atop the cake results in a dream come true.

Oh dear. I must be PMS'in. Sorry for gettin' all verklempt. Changing the tone now.

The web site is right here if you want to help Mischell in other ways... like being a volunteer baker, cake runner, donate more supplies, or want to send some dollars to help with their ever increasing list of kids in need. They don't get the ingredients for free, nor the gas in the car to drive to the birthday party. They need help and if you know of anyone who might want to do so, pass it on. It's the GNO way.

On the Calendar...

May 22 is the Team In Training/Leukemia & Lymphoma fun(d) raiser at the studio. It's a funtastic party for a serious cause. Be there & bring friends! June 8: The GNO for June is super easy! Our favorite sisters, Patrice & Michelle, are doing their 6th annual 3-day walk for Breast Cancer. Their Bowling for Boobs event is on June 12th, at 7pm, West Seattle Bowl. We need to let them know how many lanes & teams the GNO's will have, so sign up with a group. Bring your men (husbands, boyfriends & lovers) and your girlfriends. It's about boobs and it's about time we tell the world they aren't just for staring at any more! One last thing. Check out this organization. Matter of Trust http://www.matteroftrust.org/index.html "Our ecological public charity concentrates on Manmade Surplus, Natural Surplus & Eco-Education". They are orchestrating the collection of hair (human, dog and natural fibers) for cleaning up the gulf oil spill. Check it out. Sign up. Go to your salon and dog groomer and tell them to collect hair in a box. Give them the information on how to donate it. Easy.

Excess Access http://www.excessaccess.com/ is another fantastic organization that helps companies & individuals find 're-purposes' for their unwanted goods. Recycling at it's finest. Share it with your office, boss, company, etc.

BTW, I cleaned up the email group and deleted addresses of non-participatory people in the list. This list doesn't match the Facebook group, so it just means some girls are not getting the message via email. I'll also try to update the blog at the same time as FB & email. If you also want your name off, let me know. If you want to add someone, let me know that too.

Toys for Tots=Success

Hi Friends,

I just want to say thank you to everyone who supported the Toys for Tots drive last night at the studio. We covered a 120 square foot area with toys along with collecting food for the local food bank. Chris and Corey of the USMC shared their evening with us and were impressed with our contributions to the organization. There is a lot of need this year, so if you still want to give, there are drop off locations all around the area.

The GNO group of gals do great things for the community and any ladies out there that want to join in on the fun, give me a shout. We meet the second Tuesday of every month here at the studio. We meet, we eat, we drink wine, we whine. Oh... and we contribute our resources to a specified Sharity of the month.

January is Dress for Success, http://www.dressforsuccess.org/affiliate.aspx?pageid=1&sisid=63, so go through that closet and bring in that suit. Put it to good use. This organization helps women in transition prepare for the job market by fitting them with work attire, prepping them for the work environment and providing tools to be successful in work and life. It's a good one!

November: Shelter Helper

For this years Shelter Helper we will be helping out the Seattle Humane Society.

Karen Predmore is Project Leader for this event and has done a great job at collecting information for the next Sharity. We have three different opportunities to help them this season. They are:

#1. WISH LIST: Please bring with you to November's GNO pet related items that we can donate to the Humane Society. Items on their wish list include:

*wet cat and dog food (this is their biggest thing they go through the fastest...and they said the cheap brands you get at the grocery store are just fine!)

*dry cat and dog food. (they will also accept open containers!)

*old towels and blankets (they run these through bleach - so any condition is fine - they will be used to clean up nasty stuff =)

*beds
*toys
*collars and leashes
*bowls
*anything cat and dog related (or small animal related)

*Sally told me that they take everything new or used so bring it all!

#2. The Humane Society is throwing an adoption event in early December and could use baked goods donated to serve to perspective adoptees at the event. If you're interested in baking you can sign up at November's GNO. The number of people that sign up to bake will determine how much baking you need to do
- but it's not much! I will deliver the goods to the Humane Society the weekend of their event. More info when we meet!

#3. For the same event they are trying to put together "new pet owner gift baskets" to be raffled off throughout the weekend to new adoptees. We'd love to be able to throw together a dog and a cat basket for them. To do this we need donations of NEW items that a new pet owner would need. Cat/Dog bed, collar/leash, toys, grooming pieces, litter box, Natures Miracle clean up stuff, poop bags, etc. If you have it in the budget to pick up any of these items new - or a gift card to a pet supply store - please bring them with you to our meeting and we'll separate it all out and see what we can build!

Talking to Sally on the phone was a real inspiration. She was SO EXCITED to know that we wanted to help and already thanking us profusely for even offering. Anything we do will be truly appreciated!!!!!

On November 10, we'll have sign up for the baked goods donations so she has a good idea of what to tell Sally.

Regina House and the Union Gospel Mission donations were yet another success! Great work GNO's. We're keeping people warm on these cold nights and days.

December is Toys for Tots! Start collecting and spreading the word. Our event will be at the studio on 12/8, our usual GNO meeting night. We'll make it another pot luck with admission to the party being toys or non-perishable food items.

GNO: Food round up for Providence Regina House




Hi Ladies,

Recently, we made a drop off to the Regina House in South Park of school supplies that Kathryn, Teri & I gathered up. Paige, the director, put a call out on the Georgetown Listserve of an urgent need for backpacks and supplies. She had promised 100 backpacks full of goodies based on a corporate donation. Needless to say, the company was only able to come through w/25, so she sent out a 911 to the community. GNO was able to help fill the need AND we found a great recipient for many of our causes! The Providence Regina House helps out the community members of the South Park area. Many of them are lower income and could use a little extra help. They will take clothing, household items, food, baby goods, etc. They get their food donations from NW Harvest, so unless anyone has any objections, I'm for dropping the food off directly at Regina House. It's in our 'hood yo!

Coming up on Tuesday is our next meeting. Still focusing on food donations, so if you want to clean out your pantry, hit the grocery outlet, or have some fresh veggies from your garden, bring it on down Tuesday night and on Wednesday we'll drop it off.

I'm not sure how to set the FB thing up so everyone can see all the responses. If you know, then let me know! Also, I think I opened this group up so you can invite people. Some of you have mentioned wanting to invite some interested friends, so it should be open to do that. Keep in mind the focus of the group when you extend your invitations. We are here to have fun, catch up with old friends, make new ones, relax, have an evening away from work, house, spouse, kids, etc... and as a side effect... do something great for the community.

Here is another tid bit of information about a volunteer opportunity coming up too. This sounds like it would be fun for the GNO's to show up and do a mass volunteer attack! Let's discuss on Tuesday!

My name is Kerrie Carbary and I am the West Region coordinator for Volunteer Chore Services, a program of Catholic Community Services. Our organization provides volunteer help to low-income seniors and disabled adults so that they may continue to live independently. We serve clients throughout King County who are eagerly awaiting volunteer help. Volunteers provide free in-home assistance with tasks like light housework, yard work, and shopping.

Currently, I’m working with a low-income apartment building in Georgetown. Many residents of this apartment building are chronically ill, disabled, or seniors in poor health, and they are in a great need of just a little extra help to be able to continue to live independently.

One gentleman living in this building has no family or friends to help him while he’s trying to recover from Cancer treatments. He's also working through depression due to his illness. He’s frustrated with his low levels of energy due to his medications and treatments, and wishes that he could keep up with his own housework, but he finds that he could use a little extra help. He’s a charming, friendly man who likes to go outside to drink his cup of coffee in the morning. He used to love to ride his bicycle, but now he’s too frightened to go because he’s worried he’ll get too tired to make it back home.

Another resident has a great attitude about life even though she’s recently had to have yet another lung surgery, and is getting chemotherapy for lung cancer. She can only currently lift 7 pounds due to her recent surgery, which makes it very difficult for her to go grocery shopping, take care of her tiny apartment, and do other day-to-day tasks. She hopes for a volunteer who will be willing to use "green cleaning" recipes for cleaning, because she and her cat are both sensitive to chemicals. She’s fun to visit with and could greatly benefit from a couple of hours of help and conversation.

There are several other individuals with stories like these in this one building. I’d like to offer you the chance to join with me in creating a small group of volunteers to visit this apartment building and help with some light housework. I know that they’d be extremely grateful and we could get so much accomplished with just a few hours of work.

This is an excellent opportunity for Georgetown residents to interact with their neighbors while providing essential services to enable these members of our community to remain living independently in their homes. Volunteers choose the day, time and location for their service. They could provide a much-needed service such as vacuuming a small apartment or making a bed or even simply visiting.

If you’re interested in working together on this community involvement opportunity, or if you know of anyone interested in volunteering one on one, please let me know. I’d also be happy to visit your offices, come to a meeting, or bring by some flyers and other information about Volunteer Chore Services.

GNO: NW Harvest next week

Hi GNO Ladies,

Next Tuesday is the start of our NW Harvest collection. Remember... the food banks are usually forgotten during the summer months and these days, the need is greater than ever. Check out the link and see what they need. Baby food items are important too. Last year we donated about eight large boxes of food items. Let's see if we can double it up!

May 12!!

Holy Cow! I can't believe time has slipped by so fast!

So the second Tuesday is GNO night... that makes it May 12th. We haven't designated a charity to focus on. Melinda is our May gal and I know she's been super busy. We may have to just meet up (chat, drink, gossip, eat, etc.) and decide on what June will be.

According to my list, Saundra is our only June gal. If you have a June birthday, speak up and start thinking of your sharity! We also have Michelle and Patrice's Bowling for Boobs event on June 6th. The GNO's are helping so mark your calendar! We can discuss what they need help on.

Thank you to all of the GNO's who helped out on the TNT party at the studio! The food was great and it went off without a hitch. Thanks to everyone for your support! We had great raffle items and super awesome helpers! We raised ~$3000!

At the next meeting I think we should develop a calendar for the charities we want to help for the rest of the year. I like the idea of Toys for Tots being an annual event since it was such a great success in December. I also think we should try to do another NW Harvest food drive before the end of summer. They were extremely appreciative last July when we donated at a time when they are normally forgotten.

Keep the ideas rolling and the good deeds coming!

GNO: Seattle Humane Society

Hi Gals,

Things have been super hectic and I apologize for sending out the 'THANKS' so late. We gathered up quite a bit of goods for the Seattle Humane Society. Laura scored a pallets-worth of dog food from Amazon. We all tapped resources and re-purposed some things from home. Kathryn went to the extra effort of actually making a dog bed with removable cover. It turned out awesome!

Belinda contacted the SHS and they are excited about the donations. When LPB returns from her Mexican vacation (jerk), the three of us will make the trip over there and drop off the goods. There will be a lot of happy puppies! This also helps the Foster parents with their pet food bills, so the donation reaches pretty far!

We don't have any April birthday girls to head the next sharity, so we are helping Patrice & Michelle with their Pretty in Pink Prom (4/11) by attending, partying (ooohh. Tough one!) and helping out any way they need. AND Karen's Team in Training fund raising party at the studio (4/25). The GNO is in charge of providing food for about 200 people! Finger foods and snack like items. As time gets closer, we'll get organized and figure out the food scenario. It's a fun event and we hope you'll be able to help and attend!

We aren't going to meet for the next GNO. We'll consider the prom and the party as our meeting event. That means May is up to Melinda and whomever else is a May Maiden! Start thinking about what you want us to do for you! You will have to post it to FB, the blog or the email so we can be prepared on May 12th for the GNO.

Champagne & Chocolate: Guide dogs for the Blind is coming up!

For those of you who aren't on Facebook yet, I made a group there and posted some things. That may be an easier outlet for communication. Although there are a few holdouts, you might want to think about Facebooking it! You know who you are. I wasn't a big fan of it in the beginning, but now I see the light! It's actually fun, great for catching up with old friends, seeing what they are up to and simple chit-chat.

Anyway, Tuesday night is our next gathering. If you have something for Kara to contribute to her event, then bring it on in. We'll decide the chosen charity for March, toss back a few glasses of wine and eat some tasty snacks!

Great job on 'Dress for Success'!!!



Last night was another successful event. So far we have helped out, donated to, and brought awareness to at least 10 different non-profit, charitable community organizations in eight months. Not too shabby ladies! I do have to say that we are pretty awesome!

I'll summarize what we chatted about for those who could not make it last night. First we talked about the effects of pregnancy, sore boobs and all. Karen was the only one present who could contribute valuable information, so us non-breeders were tuned into what she had to say... either to reinforce the idea of not breeding or to assimilate the challenges to it. And then we heard of a gal who did not know she was preggy until her 7th month. Fascinating story. Either way, no one was dissuaded about the pregnancy idea. It didn't get too graphic to scare anyone.

The conversations broke into friends catching up over the holidays and getting the skinny on everyone's daily lives, work and challenges. We discussed the blog last night too. A calendar feature would be great so that we all can see our upcoming events. Anyone know how to do it? Also, it would be super helpful if everyone signed up to be a follower or checked in with it so I'm not cramming your email account with "... oh, one more thing" announcements! I don't want to be a pest and deter participation. Also, if you are on the list and don't want to be, let me know. Our gatherings work for some people's schedules and not others. Heck, if you can't come to ours, then start up your own that fits your schedule.

We sent a sign up sheet around for the volunteer evening at 'Dress for Success'. It looks like Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the best for those with limited schedules. I'm proposing next Wednesday, 1/21 for the volunteer night. It's the day after the inauguration, so we can celebrate our new futures after we are done! Please email me if you plan on attending so I can get Monique a head count. We can always do another volunteer party if you can't make this one. She needs help all of the time. If you have more stuff to donate, you can bring it by before next Wednesday, or if you are volunteering, bring it then. I will need help transporting all of the clothing there, so if you have a rig that would be good for hanging clothes in, then our job will be easier. Monique suggested the hours of 5:30pm-7:30pm. That might be tough for some of you just getting off of work. I'll see if we can start a little later if you want. Or, whoever can get to the studio early, can help load the stuff into cars and then we can meet everyone at the donation site. Let me know what fits your schedules so we can tighten up the plans.

We have several GNO gals that are constantly doing 'Good Deeds'. It's in their blood and there is no stopping them... thank goodness! What would we do without people like them making the world a better place!

I am hoping that all of you will update me with your details and fund-raising events so that I can post it here and everyone will get the opportunity to help you out the best way they can. Make sure you provide links to your fund raising pages and to the cause. I will update the blog when the information rolls in.

2. Jennifer: YMCA Partners with Youth Campaign. Her goal is $500. I'm putting in $25.oo. Who is going to match it? They help at risk youth and provide great community programs. Let's help!
3. Patrice, Michelle, Melinda: 3-day breast cancer walk. Info/details TBA!
4. Karen & Teri: Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Sounds like the infamous Art Auction is waking up again! We need art, service and product donations! It's a big event and a lot of work. Volunteers are great too!

I will send everyone's contact information in an email so as to keep it private for the group. Then you can coordinate directly with each other on helping the best way you can.

The next GNO will be 2/10/09 here at the studio. The Sharity of the month is: Champagne & Chocolates. Our assignment consists of a few choices: Secure at least one donation for the silent auction, volunteer to help with the event, and/or buy a ticket to support the cause. One need that arose last night is veterinary care for the dogs who assist the visually impaired. If you know a vet, or have resources and ideas on how to help out in this area, please bring them to Kara's attention.

The next GNO.... 1/13/09 Dress for Success!

Happy New Year! Between the holiday mayhem and the snow days, I'm looking forward to 'normal' again! Can't wait to see you guys!

She was excited to hear about what we do and said she could really use our help at a Sorting Party! She can take about 6-10 gals at a time and will give a tour of the facility and then we'll jump in on organizing the donations for the boutiques! Weeknights from 5:30-7:30 pm are what she needs. We did it! Toys for Tots was a huge success!



So, last night we hosted a Toys for Tots event at the studio. Initially it was going to be a small gathering of the usual "Girls Night Out" clan along with their significant others and kids. I thought it would be an intimate gathering so everyone can meet and greet each other's family, have a pot luck, drink some beverages and do the usual good deed. Thankfully, the event blossomed into a blow out! About 50 people showed up with arms full of toys and delicious food to share. If I had to guess, we probably ended up with about 300 toys to donate.

The 'Red Alert' went out a few days before the event, notifying everyone that Toys for Tots had record low donations and needed help. The timing was perfect for our good deed gathering. Everyone stepped up to the plate and earned about 300 smiles from little kids last night. Some of our friends brought their kids and joined in on the giving. Even though they were eye-balling the toys, they understood the purpose and were more excited to see three of our nation's finest Marines arrive to take part in the gathering... and so were all the girls!

The embarrassing part is my attempt at a speech. I guess that's why "ass" is a part of the word 'embarrass'! Anyway, what I could not successfully do last night is extend a heart-felt thank you to everyone who helped and participated. I just wanted to say... "Look at what you did!" and point at the huge table full of toys. I mean if you think about it, the idea of one person grew to the strength of a small army because of everyone's support, belief and desire to make life better for someone else. Completely selfless acts by 50+ people, are going to make 300 kids and all of their family happy and full of hope at a really difficult point in their lives. How can you not feel good about what we did? Thank you so much.

I passed around a sign up sheet but I don't think everyone saw it or signed it. I would like to call out special thanks to some folks that really went above and beyond what I ever imagined.
Dawn Crawford rallied up all of her business neighbors and brought in a car load of toys from the fine folks at Ballard Home Comforts, Lucca, Bridget Zehring, Collective, Clover, Rick Heiner Architect Group, Souvenir, and Geno Galvan. Unbelievable... same story goes... one person can make a huge difference and she did! I'd also like to thank Jennie, Teri, Mickie, Dawn & Jeff for helping set up and clean up. Can't thank you enough for helping pull this off so smoothly. Dennis was in charge of lighting.... Great job db! Earl picked up the keg and cooked wings. Thanks honey! I know more people helped and gave in so many ways. My thanks extend to everyone.

For those who check in on the blog and might be interested in taking part, The Girls meet the second Tuesday of the month here at the studio. We meet for at least two reasons. One is selfish: to do something for ourselves, hang with the girls, make new friends, drink some wine, eat some food, get away from the kids and spouses, and have fun. Sometimes we exchange beauty secrets or talk about our periods. That's why Earl goes next door to Stellar Pizza. The second is selfless: we help a charity at the same time. Sometimes we help two or three in one month. It depends on what we gather up and focus on. We might as well do something with all of our power and might. We can't just let it go to waste. That would be a shame.

Since it's a work theme, I think we all should get the skinny on each others livelihoods and do a little networking amongst the group. If anyone is looking for a job, and anyone is hiring at their work place let's share it amongst the group and help each other out. That's what we do!

Toys For Tots 12/9/08

Hey Ladies of the GNO.

It's about time we start shakin' it up a bit and get ready for the holidays. The next gathering will be at the studio. This time bring your boyfriend, husband, lover, pool boy, significant other... hell, bring all five and the kids that go with them! The more the merrier.

Admission to this year-end extravaganza is easy! Bring at least one new, unwrapped toy for our Sharity of the Month: Toys For Tots http://www.toys4tots.org/index.html . That's right. We're givin' to the children and they are gonna love these toys.

Here is the skinny... it's 'pot-luck' style so if you would like to share a dish, bring it on in. If you aren't too keen on cooking up something, than bring some wine. If that doesn't suit you, then bring some food goods for Northwest Harvest http://www.northwestharvest.org/. If none of that floats your fancy, then just show up with an extra toy. It's all about the giving, because when you give you get (karma, warm fuzzies, smiles, thanks, points, miles, one step closer to heaven, etc.).

Let the festivities begin! The Wii, foosball, ping-pong and pool tables will be ready for the male dominated competitions that usually unfold when drinks are consumed. While they are preoccupied amongst themselves, we'll be enjoying the company of three of the Marines finest representatives! There is something for everybody, so bring a bunch of toys for the tots, and your favorite peeps along to enjoy the evening with friends.

One more thing... our Homeless Helper was another success! We donated five huge bags and two large boxes full of coats, sweaters, gloves, hats, socks, blankets, and fleeces. The Union Gospel Mission picked everything up on 11/18 and were grateful for the contributions! Good job ladies. We did it again!

Homeless Helper is next Tuesday!

Hi Girls,
11/11/08, Tuesday night at the studio is Homeless Helper night. Come by after work, enjoy some beverages, chit-chat and bring warm clothing items for the Union Gospel Mission. If you know of other needful charities, we'll include them too. We usually have enough stuff to spread around to several organizations.

It sounds like this will be a pretty good turnout! We have Roger's on tap from Georgetown Brewing and I'll have easy-to-prepare snacks. You know my talents in the kitchen are lacking. But don't be shy if you want to share a snack or some wine.
